The UFB Power Rankings
The UFB Top 15 Power Rankings
In the latest attempt to bring all our readers the latest and most accurate information, bloggers from all over the world are joining to create the new standard for tracking the NFL Power Rankings. We have united and have created the UFB Power Rankings ( United Football Bloggers). This is going to be the standard that all experts will eventually be using. It is a system that the most passionate and non-bias group of people can form. It is a ranking from people who study, love, and write football. It is not a ranking system that is created by a bunch of over paid so called experts. Without any more delay, lets get to the rankings and officially kick off the season.
1. Green Bay Packers (5) 0 – 0 vs. New Orleans (Thursday Night)
Super Bowl champions have not lost any key piece during the off season and drafted some nice players who can help them down the stretch. They have lost some depth but chance of them losing as many players as they did is very low. Aaron Rodgers is at his prime and with several players coming back from injuries, Packers are primed for another Super Bowl run.
2. New England Patriots (2) 0 – 0 at Miami (Monday Night)
If Eagles had the best off season, Patriots are not too far behind. Belichick brought in several veterans who still have a lot to offer and are eager to win their first Super Bowl. I am not a fan of Ochocinco trade but other moves (Haynesworth, Carter, Ellis etc) more than makes up for it. With Tom Brady finally healthy, Patriots are the favorite in AFC.
3. Philadelphia Eagles 0 – 0 at St. Louis
Are they NFL’s Miami Heats? Eagles brought in several marquee players who are sure to make impacts. Michael Vick is back to stardom and their defense looks solid. Only question heading into the season is lack of depth at linebacker position, which will definitely exposed during playoff games.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers (1) 0 – 0 at Baltimore
Steelers do not need a lot of explanation. They have one of the best defenses in the league led by James Harrison and Troy Polamalu and explosive offense led by Ben Roethlisberger. They will be win AFC North unless Joe Flacco puts up elite quarterback stats. However, they lack depth in multiple positions.
5. Atlanta Falcons 0 – 0 at Chicago
Matt Ryan has justified his role as the savior of the franchise. However, they are not ready to contend for the Super Bowl. As much as I respect Michael Smith, their head coach, and his staff, I don’t believe they can match adjustments made by other teams when it comes to playoff time. They have assembled a good team that just needs more experience to win the Super Bowl
6. New York Jets 0 – 0 vs Dallas (Sunday Night)
As much as it pains me to say this but Jets led by Rex Ryan is a great team. Jets’ defense, despite lack of elite pass rusher, is one of the bests in the league thanks to Rex Ryan’s great coaching. Mark Sanchez should make noticeable improvement in his game with Santonio Holmes coming back. Only problem for them is running back since Shonn Greene is injury prone and LT lost step(s)
7. New Orleans Saints 0 – 0 at Green Bay (Thursday Night)
Sean Payton and Drew Brees have built one of the most explosive offenses in the league. Sean Payton calls plays that creates mismatch and Brees spots them. Their defense was average last year but should improve as young players such as Malcolm Jenkins, take another leap forward.
8. San Diego Chargers 0 – 0 vs Minnesota
Some of you may say that Chargers do not deserve to be on top 10 since they were only 8-8 last year. Well, a team with a top 5 quarterback in the league in terms of stat and #1 ranked defense often makes playoff, and that is what Chargers was for. They have not lost any key players and have healthy Bob Sanders who can turn this defense into very dangerous one
9. Baltimore Ravens 0 – 0 vs Pittsburgh
John Harbaugh has done a great job turning Baltimore Ravens into perennial Super Bowl contenders. However, once rock solid defense is declining and the offense has not improved enough to overcome the problem. This is a crucial season for Joe Flacco as his plays will determine whether Ravens can finally take over Steelers as the champions of AFC north and win the Super Bowl.
10. Chicago Bears 0 – 0 vs Atlanta
Quarterback Jay Cutler might have literally quit on his team and fans, but the Bears aren’t quitting on getting better. Bring in WR Roy Williams and RB Marion Barber for Cutler to execute the offense with and give him more weapons, Cutler also came into camp noticeably slimmer. The defense is upgraded with Brandon Merriweather, and more depth but the question continues to remain at the Offensive line. The loss of Center Olin Kreutz and also a decent blocker and pass catching TE Greg Olson could be vital though, as we have seen it, and its a proven fact. If Cutler doesn’t have all day, he can’t make plays, and if defenses get him on the ground, well, he just might in fact quit with the way the defenses get to him.
11. Dallas Cowboys 0 – 0 at N.Y. Jets (Sunday Night)
Out of camp and preseason, QB Tony Romo has never looked better, and for a team that went 5-2 with their now new head coach Jason Garrett, hopes are high at Jerry’s Palace. That TV maybe big, but the holes the Offensive line are bigger. Unproven guys, like rookie Tyron Smith, Bill Nagy and David Arkin have looked solid, but again, still unproven. Felix Jones is ready to be #1 on the depth chart and could be a fantasy stud, as well as a star for the blue and silver Stars, down in Texas.
12. Houston Texans 0 – 0 vs Indianapolis
They have been picked as team that will finally overcome Colts but have failed to do so. But I believe this is the year. Coach Gary Kubiak should know that he is on the hot seat. I believe that Houston’s defense will improve dramatically under Wade Phillips. However, short off season may lead to longer adjustment period.
13. New York Giants 0 – 0 at Washington
Eli Manning turned the ball over way too much last year, however he was not helped by his Wide Receiver corps. Now they lose TE Kevin Boss, there prized draft pick this year, CB Prince Amukamara, went down with an injury before preseason, and they are still a piece of peanut brittle on the Offensive line. Their bread and butter remains the front line pass rush on defense, a solid run game and hoping to limit the turnovers, Tom Coughlin might be the best coach on the hot seat right now, because another 8-8 season might not save his job.
14. Indianapolis Colts 0 – 0 at Houston
This team will wins, loses, goes, stops, eats, sleeps, dies or lives only as far as #18 wins, loses, goes, stops, eats, sleeps, dies or lives….You get the point, he is their everything. This Manning neck injury is serious and now he is doubtful for week 1, if not longer. Getting older at almost all key positions like LB, WR and DE. You figure DE’s Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis have more pro bowl seasons left, but they are aging as well and its clear, the Colts are not the Colts that we have come to know and love and they are like a crumbling building(Pats and Texans fans would say hate)But its all on Peyton, Its amazing to know that one guy, one single player, could determine if the Colts are 11-5 or 5-11…Its all about Manning
15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 0 – 0 vs Detroit
Mmmm, we like this team, young and talented, lead by the young future stud QB of the NFL in Josh Freeman, a very good defense and a scrappy young head coach have the Buccaneers on the rise. Watch second round draft pick Da’Quan Bowers, the man slipped from top pick to 2nd round and if he comes back healthy. He could be a top talent for years to come, which is music to young head coach Rahim Morris’s ears.
