The UFB Power Rankings - Week 10
UFB Top 15 Power Rankings
We would like to first of all welcome the new bloggers to the group. We would also like to thank all the readers that have read and follow all our bloggers in the UFB. Once again we are bringing you the latest and the most accurate power rankings. So take a seat and see if your team made our list.
(1) 1. Green Bay Packers (7) 8 – 0 next vs Minnesota Vikings
As expected, the game against the Chargers was close and entertaining. The Chargers were ready for Packers and was able to stay in the game until the very end, which says a lot since most teams who played Packers were out of the game pretty quick. Sure the defense did not play at their best but still stepped up at the right time to win the game. Let’s see if the Vikings can pull off an upset in Monday night football.
(3) 2. San Francisco 49ers 7 – 1 next vs New York Giants
Have they clinched the NFC West yet? On a serious note, they have played easy teams the last couple weeks, this week the schedule challenges them. Harbaugh has done a great job focusing in on their strengths. Will they be able to shut down the Giants show the league they really are this good?
(7) 3. Baltimore Ravens 6 – 2 next at Seattle Seahawks
This looks like a classic, play to the level of the competition type team. They lose to Tennessee and Jacksonville and barely beat Arizona, but they’ve beaten Houston, Pittsburgh (twice), and the Jets. The good news for them is there are no bad teams in the playoffs, which looks like where they’re heading after securing the tiebreaker over the Steelers. The bad news is, we still have yet to see back to back good performances by Joe Flacco all season. Seriously, look up his stats. You don’t win a Super Bowl if you’re that inconsistent.
(2) 4. Pittsburgh Steelers 6 – 3 next at Cincinnati Bengals
Great win for the Ravens and Baltimore. We really thought that the Steelers would stomp all over the Ravens. For once the Ravens stepped up to the challenge that they had set upon themselves. Ravens have relatively easy schedule for the rest of the season. The offense must continue its evolution and gain consistency.
(5) 5. New Orleans Saints 6 – 3 next at Atlanta Falcons
This game was closer than the score indicates but the Saints rebounded well after confusing loss against the Rams. Drew Brees seem to have some problems without Sean Payton on the sideline but the offense is still dangerous and the defense seems to be finding its comfort zone. They have a big game against the Falcons at Atlanta before the bye week that might determine who wins the NFC South.
(6) 6. Detroit Lions 6 – 2 next at Chicago Bears
The Lions come out of a bye week and have to get straight back into the grind. With already have beaten Chicago at home this year, this game will be important to both teams. Detroit can sweep their series and keep second in the division, but Chicago can pull into a tie for second and still be in the running for the wild card spot.
(9) 7. New York Giants 6 – 2 next at San Francisco 49ers
As much as we would like to give the Giants a job well done, it was Patriots who ultimately lost that game, not Giants winning it. Sure their defense did a great job, limiting Patriots to 20 points, but Patriots’ defense lost the game, unable to close. Giants started off their brutal schedule well but it would not surprise us if they lose next 5 games.
(4) 8. New England Patriots 5 – 3 next at New York Jets
Yes, they’re still here. To everyone who is writing them off, what happened last time you did that? Exactly. Look at their remaining schedule and tell us how they lose more than 1 more game. They have the Jets, the Chiefs, the Eagles, the Colts, Redskins, the Dolphins, the Broncos, and the Bills. I see 3 legitimate football teams on there, the Jets, Eagles, and Bills. However, losing to the Jets would mean losing 3 in a row, something they haven’t done since 2002, and losing to the Bills would mean going 0-2 against a divisional opponent, something they haven’t done since 2000, when Brady wasn’t even the quarterback. Besides, how good are the Eagles even?
(15) 9. Chicago Bears 5 – 3 next vs Detroit Lions
Great win for the Bears. They deserved every bit of this win, especially since they, as a team, stepped up their game and finished it. We was worried that the Bears might start fall apart as they usually do but they did an awesome job. This win also puts Bears back into playoff contention. Bears have very manageable schedule and the win against the Lions this week may as well put them in the playoff.
(11) 10. Houston Texans 6 – 3 next at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Texans beat down a bad team (Browns) as the elite team should. Last 3 weeks, Texans’ defense gave up total of 33 points (Titans, Jaguars and Browns) and has a momentum going into this week against the Buccaneers, whose offense has been inconsistent. Texans should cruise through remainder of their schedule with only two teams (Bengals and Falcons) having record better than .500.
(14) 12. Cincinnati Bengals 6 – 2 next vs Pittsburgh Steelers
One of the biggest surprises of the season, the Bengals. Nobody saw this coming, especially with all the internal issues this team was having, from owner all the way down. We are conservatively ranking the Bengals here. In 2 weeks, they could be a lot lower or a lot, lot higher with Pittsburgh and Baltimore next on their schedule. The Bengals have yet to beat a proven veteran team, but that doesn’t mean they can’t. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them beat either Pittsburgh and/or Baltimore, but for now, we are ranking those two veteran squads above the Bengals in the division and making the Bengals prove themselves.
(13) 13. Atlanta Falcons 5 – 3 next vs New Orleans Saints
Atlanta was on bye again last week as they played the Colts, so there’s nothing to talk about here. Obviously, their game with the Saints this week is huge. They’ve already lost to the Buccaneers so if they lose to the Saints, they’re 0-2 against legitimate playoff contenders in their division. This game is especially important because it’s at home. If they lose this one, we really don’t like their chances to settle the score in New Orleans later this season, even though they won their last year.
(8) 14. Buffalo Bills 5 – 3 next at Dallas Cowboys
The Bills continue to fall, making room for legitimate playoff contenders. Everyone knew that it would catch up with the Bills, but no one was sure when. 2 – 3 in the last 5 games and a hard road game this week, we won’t be surprised if they fall out of the top 15.
(NR) 15. San Diego Chargers 4 – 4 next vs Oakland Raiders
Did the Chargers just hit midseason form? Every year it happens and normally it’s really noticeable because they blow some team out, but they were playing the Packers last week. They weren’t going to blow them out. Hanging with them was very impressive. We’ll see if they can get their signature blow out win this week as they host the Raiders on Thursday Night Football. They have a clear advantage in that one as the home team. They don’t have to travel on a short week. 0 – 4 against teams .500 or above, lets see if they can end this streak with a struggling Raider team.
